Shooting War

I have always liked comics but it has been a really long time since I have read one. This has started me back up and reading them just like old times. Shooting War is a Web-comic that mainly focuses on the media. It is about a blogger named Jimmy Burns that becomes a famous journalist and is known worldwide. Burns blew up on the media by capturing a bombing attack that he ran into while video blogging near his apartment. They live streamed Burns on television while he was shooting the destruction that has happened. He then was receiving offers from television networks, but he kept refusing because he knew the news is a bunch of bogus that nobody believes anymore. The news is becoming more of a cartoon it looks like. Sometimes its funny to watch. They try to cover up a ton of the real news that they do not want anybody to listen to. I personally just listen to the news to see what they are trying to hide. You never know when they are telling the truth or telling a lie, but mostly lies. Anthony Lappe clarifies the media and its flaws in picture. This is just as true as reality news media's and with what is happening now in the middle east. One rhetorical strategy this author uses during this comic script is showing us proof. He does that by taking us to Baghdad and giving us a good look of what is happening during the war. In one scene he claims that the soldiers do not have a clue of what they are shooting at. This is absurd. Is this what really goes on??

Week 2

Week two consisted of a couple of readings and a movie which was, Diary of the Dead. One of the readings was a Web-comic called Shooting War. If you have not read this or heard of it, I would recommend looking it up and reading it. It is a fairly good comic. It is very true especially about the news. No one can trust the news these days. Moving on to a speech of Barack Obama speaking about race and becoming a more perfect union. It was an amazing speech to listen to given the fact that Obama is a great speaker. The movie, Diary of the Dead, was a zombie movie. I don't have a problem watching scary movies or any kind of horror film and this was not that scary to me. I like the movies that keep you on your feet. This movie was mostly about how the media was not giving the people the truth and whats really going on. I agree with what these people in the movie were trying to say, not just because I think the media is not giving us the right information but because they try to make people believe whatever they want them to think. They are just feeding us a bunch of nonsense. However, I did enjoy this movie as well other readings that were included this week.

Barack Obama's speech

President Barack Obama is one of the greatest speakers I have ever heard. When I heard his speech about race and becoming "A More Perfect Union", I knew that I was going to listen to a great speech. During his speech he does not just include himself and doing it on his own, he also includes us Americans. He repeats the word "we" many times, because he knows that he can't do it himself and he needs everyone to get involved in this issue. He started off the speech by giving a little history of when slavery started, then he smoothly went on including us Americans in the speech. He then talked about his background information about himself and his family, how they are all from different races, which makes him more knowledgeable about this situation. When Barack Obama is giving the speech, is talking to the audience in front of him and us Americans at the same time. What I mainly like about his speech is he is all about change. He takes it step by step to solve the problem and breaks it down to the audience for them to know how they can help. Obama makes his speech very clear and easy to understand for everyone to listen and see the importance. I always feel connected when listening or watching his speeches because his choice of words are brilliant and his delivery is very effective.

The Technological World

Technology is much more elaborative than anyone can think of. Julian Dibbell, the author of the Introduction to The Best Technology Writing 2010, is exactly right about everything he said. I truly believe that technology goes that far back in time and even the paper that has some ink printed on it is part of the technological world. He just says it so perfectly. He even goes back in time of the ancient Egypt myths and brings back Thamus and Theuth who were the Gods that invented writing. This was just a thought of how technology first started and how far it goes back. I agree with him 100% when he stated "But again, as in every previous year, the non digital stories are a distinct minority". This is very true because people are much more attached to their technological devices and every year they come out with newer ones and more and more individuals become interested. Its all about having the latest and best technology nowadays. Julian Dibbell did a good job introducing technology by going back to the ancient Egypt myths. I would also like to point out a part of the article where he talks about the technology that people love, but not just for the looks and just to be better than anyone else but "something quieter and deeper, beyond ideology or faith or any expectation of a payout". Many people do actually feel this way, and its the technological device that keeps them happy and more intelligent. If it was not for all this technology, people would be going through some tough times because many people cannot go through a day without being on their laptops or smartphones. They are just so attached to them. Life is hard without technology.

Week 1

First day of English class wasn't bad. Actually I was really glad it was an interesting class. The teacher seemed pretty cool especially when he told us that we were going to watch a couple of movies throughout the semester. My other Philosophy class is just BORING. I fell asleep on the first day. It is just so hard to stay awake in that class. I was the kid that had the head bobbin trying to stay awake the first half of the class then I would just be awake for the second half. At least I have a class to look forward to going to each week. The teacher even lets us text and use technology in class. How sweet is that?? Writing papers is not my strong suit but we will see how it goes. The teacher gave us a fascinating topic to talk about which was technology, something we use everyday almost every minute of our lifetime. You can go about it in so many different ways and is such a huge deal nowadays. Its all about technology and its growing each day.
